SCO OpenServer 5
What's New in 5.0.7
This Signature release of SCO
OpenServer 5 demonstrates the commitment of SCO to their most popular
operating system. SCO OpenServer™ Release 5.0.7 is the successor to
SCO OpenServer™ Release 5.0.6.
SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 is released
in three versions: the Enterprise System, the Host System, and the
Desktop System. User bands, network capabilities, and CPU licenses
remain as they were for the SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 release. Highlights
of this release include:
- SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 Media
Kits: In addition to the standard media kit, a new compact media
kit is now available. This kit contains 1.44Mb boot floppies and
CD-ROM media only, which provides all of the software necessary
to install any component of SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7, including
evaluation and demonstration versions of the product.
- SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 License
Packs: Available for the Enterprise, Host, and Desktop versions,
giving customers the most cost-effective solutions for their computing
needs. Version license keys and upgrade and trade-in licenses for
SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 are new. User bands and CPU licensing
remain consistent with SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.6.
- SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 includes
the following new, fully-supported products: Samba, Mozilla, OpenSSL,
OpenSLP, OpenSSH, OpenLDAP, and many other commonly used Open Source
libraries and tools. Pearl and Apache are now fully integrated into
the system, and Apache has been enhanced with support for PHP, XML,
ASP, and other Apache technologies such as mod_perl. For text-based
web browsing, Lynx is now provided with this release. The Squid
caching proxy server, BIND, FTP Daemon, and IP Filter have been
updated.
- SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 features
the SCO Update Service, a new concept that allows SCO customers
early access to incremental SCO OpenServer releases through easy-to-install,
regularly scheduled Upgrade Packs. Upgrade Packs are delivered electronically
or, optionally, distributed on CD-ROM. This service can be purchased
bundled with any version of SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7, or as
a stand-alone enhancement. For more information on SCO Update Service,
refer to the SCO Update Service White Paper at: http://www.sco.com/products.
